2022 EPiC Journey Against Diabetes, “EPiC Windy City to Space City”
The EPiC Journey Against Diabetes is a long-distance endurance bike ride which aims to raise awareness of diabetes, its perils and the Global Diabetes Epidemic. This is in line with the goals of Rotary Action Group for Diabetes (RAGD). During recent in-person Rotary International Conventions (Seoul, Atlanta, Toronto & Hamburg) we have engaged many Rotarians, Rotary Clubs and Rotary Districts via fellowships, meetings & symposiums. We do this as we ride our bicycle to The Rotary Convention.
In 2019, EPiC Journey Against Diabetes started from London, UK to the Rotary Convention in Hamburg, DE. We had fellowships and meetings with Rotarians and their communities in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany. Additionally, Rotarians in Belgium and The Netherlands organized diabetes symposiums while coordinating with the schedule of the EPiC Journey Against Diabetes. It was quite an amazing experience as many Rotarians also cycled with us along the way in various parts of the journey. For 2022, The EPiC Team includes Edwin Velarde (RC Westlake Village, CA) – Founder/Ride Leader and Chair of Rotary Action Group for Diabetes, PDG Robert Morris (RC Golders Green, London UK) – Chair of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland (RY2023-2024), IPDG Tom Drennan (RC Overland MO) & John Shultz (RC Linn County IA), David Anderson (RC Shebogyan EB WI) and support personnel led by Dr. Cristina Velarde DMD.
We are excited to meet Rotarians as we ride our bikes starting with a Send-Off Ride Event on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from the Rotary International Headquarters in Evanston, IL and finish at the Rotary International Convention in Houston, TX on Friday, June 3, 2022. We are looking forward to meeting Rotarians in your Rotary Club and District to have fellowship as we pass through your community. Rotarians and their families are welcome to join us in parts of our cycling journey.
The 2022 EPiC Journey Against Diabetes takes us through these major cities: Evanston IL, Springfield IL , St. Louis MO, Little Rock, AR, Shreveport LA and finish in Houston TX. Whether you are from these cities, any town in between or in close proximity, we need your support.
It would be very much appreciated If you can be part of the 2022 EPiC Journey Against Diabetes. Let’s join hands to raise awareness in your community. We would love to work with you and speak to your Rotary Club and/or District about diabetes and how it affects Rotarians, and communities around the world.
