On October 3rd, 2014, I was honored to help Rotary’s fight against polio by organizing and participating in The EPiC Challenge (presented by Rotary District 5240). I was among Rotarians and others who pedaled our bicycles for 200 kilometers from Paso Robles to Monterey, California in the United States. The EPiC Challenge was highly successful in uniting Rotarians, creating awareness and most importantly raising funds for Polio Plus®.
“I was inspired by my experience and the efforts of Rotarians, both those who pedaled their bicycle with me and those who helped organize The EPiC Challenge.”
Once again I am joining the fight! On May 24th – 27th, 2016 just before the Rotary International Convention, I will be taking on an “epic challenge” in South Korea.
I will ride my bicycle 600+ kilometers from Busan to Seoul in an effort to raise funds for Rotary’s Polio Plus®. The journey will pass through 4 provinces in the “Land of the Morning Calm” that is rich with amazing culture and wonderful people.

I have never ridden a bicycle this far or been in South Korea. With the additional issues of personally living with type-1 diabetes, both the training regimen and the 600+ kilometers bicycle journey is a tremendous physical test, incredibly mentally daunting and logistically complex. However, I understand that I have the opportunity to use my healthy legs to help eliminate the suffering of poor children victimized by polio.
Thank you for the wonderful encouragements from Rotary Leaders… more
